April 2006 Hi! I’m happy to announce that the art workshops in Rockland closed down last year by Lincoln Street Center, WILL continue! I’m Lyn Donovan, a local muralist and studio painter and in conjunction with Liberty Hospitality of Rockland I’m reestablishing this longtime program. We’re now calling it “Coastal Maine Art Workshops/Rockland” and it will again offer four and five-day classes with your favorite artists from around the country. The Workshops will be based downtown at the newly refurbished Trade Winds Studio; lodging will be at quiet, scenic Glen Cove Inn and Suites, 10 minutes up the road and looking out over the Cove to Penobscot Bay. For those who would prefer the bustle of downtown, want to either upgrade or take advantage of our “Bargain Basement” rate, a variety of rooms and suites are available at the Trade Winds. You’ll have 24 hour parking and round-the-clock studio access, regardless of where you stay and, as before, your Workshop will include a complimentary lobster dinner on Monday. For those of you who don’t know Rockland, it’s been cited as one of the best “art destinations” in the country! Its six blocks of Main Street (plus a few side streets!) house great galleries, restaurants, the Farnsworth Museum and Wyeth Center, (small but world class art institutions), fun shopping and access to the waterfront. Rockland has a working harbor with breakwater and lighthouse, fishing vessels and lobster boats, a small Coast Guard base, ferries to the offshore islands and pleasure craft from rowboats to schooners to cruise ships! Rockland has a long history of shipping and fishing; its homes and buildings reflect that mix of wealth and working class and offer intriguing painting opportunities in addition to the waterfront vistas. Many quaint, coastal villages are within a ten to thirty minute drive; Camden’s and Rockport’s famous harbors are just to the north and Acadia National Park is 2 hours further. Offshore islands are accessible by ferry as well. We’ll have maps to great painting sites! Because of our unavoidably late start getting ready for this season, we won’t be able to do any national advertising, but instead, are relying on this website, our brochure and the efforts of our scheduled artists to pass the word! If you’re interested in attending, contact us directly, and also check the websites of those artists with whom you’d like to work. And tell your friends! The news that the workshops will continue has generated much enthusiasm. We’ll do everything we can to make the experience one that will bring you back again and again…the rest is up to the artist and we know they’ll offer their best! Click on the links above to find this season’s schedule, information about each class and its instructor and the various lodging options, fees, deposit, refund and cancellation policies plus information about area attractions. Print the registration form and send it in to register by mail, or contact us by phone or email at 207-594-4813 or info@coastalmaineartworkshops.com. We accept personal checks and all major credit cards. We’re looking forward to hearing from you and hope to see you here this summer! Please do pass the word to anyone you think might be interested…we’ll be happy to add them to our mailing list and, let us know if YOU would like to receive our brochure!
